What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The opening Route 23 pile-up and later deaths derive tension from interconnected vehicles, objects, and accidents.
Kimberly's vision of the highway crash enables the survivors to escape the initial disaster and drives the investigation into Death's pattern.
Kimberly and Clear connect the new deaths to the Flight 180 survivors and attempt to understand the sequence governing them.
Critics specifically noted the film's relationship between fright and laughter, while its elaborate accidental deaths emphasize extravagant spectacle.
