What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The plot is explicitly based on Rachel Barber's disappearance and murder, following Caroline, the family, and police responses.
Caroline's self-loathing and belief that Rachel is perfect directly motivate stalking, abduction, and murder.
Police misinterpret Rachel's disappearance and believe she ran away, while her parents and boyfriend react urgently.
The film's killing, family distress, and depressive atmosphere create sustained emotional devastation rather than catharsis.
