What critics said
Critics found the central Schwarzenegger-DeVito pairing engaging and warmly goofy, but considered the premise insufficient to overcome narrative shortcomings.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Julius's sheltered intellect and immense athletic build contrast with Vincent's criminal, opportunistic lifestyle, making their reunion the central comic engine.
The brothers are unintended products of an experiment designed to produce the perfect child, forcing questions of heredity, upbringing, and belonging.
Julius is raised on a South Seas island by philosophers and encounters the modern world while searching for Vincent.
The casting of exceptionally large Arnold Schwarzenegger opposite much smaller Danny DeVito makes bodily contrast an immediate visual premise without reducing the film to height jokes.
