What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Babe is a piglet who challenges the farm's hierarchy by learning to herd sheep despite the animals' assumptions about what pigs can do.
Talking animals interact with human posture and social behavior within meticulously realized farm environments and practical effects.
Babe's threatened fate as Christmas dinner and his emotional relationships encourage sympathy for animals' intelligence and social capacities.
The farmyard's playful animal society frames Babe's danger, friendships, and struggles for acceptance with warmth rather than cynicism.
