What critics said
Critics generally found the feature-length expansion of the SNL premise listless and crude, though some acknowledged its companionable cast and dopey charms.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Beldar and Prymatt evade the INS while building a life and raising their child on Earth.
The Conehead family settles into American suburbia, forms relationships, and is treated as eccentric rather than alien.
The cone-shaped heads, invented Remulak vocabulary, unusual eating habits, and exaggerated manners drive the comic style.
The audience knows Beldar and Prymatt are extraterrestrials while neighbors and acquaintances often accept their strange behavior as eccentricity.
