What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film follows Hans Christian Andersen's central story of Gerda's journey to rescue Kay from the Snow Queen.
Gerda's devotion to Kay motivates her quest and counters the Snow Queen's attempt to erase his memories and emotions.
Kay's frozen heart and the Snow Queen's northern palace oppose Gerda's affectionate, life-affirming journey.
Gerda meets strange and sometimes threatening figures while the film maintains a lyrical, hopeful fairy-tale atmosphere.
