What critics said
Critics broadly find the sequel an amusing and affectionate spoof of heavy metal culture, though its niche references may work best for viewers familiar with the subculture.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The band’s prison escape, festival booking, and frantic journey create a music-centered farcical structure.
The film targets heavy metal conventions and includes references to Mustaine, Lemmy, Dokken, and J-pop metal.
The band’s possible festival appearance is tied to saving the guitarist’s family home and business from demolition.
The northern European setting and droll spoofing frame the band’s exaggerated metal persona as ordinary social reality.
