What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Jesse's fear, bodily transformation, and charged encounters with Freddy have been widely read through a queer-subtext lens.
Freddy's threat depends on nightmares and his attempt to possess Jesse so he can cause havoc in the real world.
Jesse's possession plot centers on transformation, loss of control, and uncertainty about whether the violence belongs to him or Freddy.
The film emphasizes grotesque physical effects, including its notable chest-burster sequence and demonic bodily transformations.
