What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Freddy attacks through sleep, while Kristen can pull other characters into her dreams and the group develops individualized dream abilities.
Freddy's taunts and catchphrases give the horror a playful register even as his dream murders remain violent and sadistic.
Nancy helps the hospitalized teenagers recognize their special abilities and use them together against Freddy.
The central characters are psychiatric patients and doctors in a hospital, while their nightmares transform treatment into entry into Krueger's domain.
