What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The narrative concentrates on Jasenovac, an NDH-era extermination camp whose history is less represented in international Holocaust cinema.
Dara is a ten-year-old girl sent into the Jasenovac camp complex and her perspective structures the film's emotional experience.
Critical reception repeatedly identifies the film's lurid, gratuitous, and unflinching presentation of camp violence as a defining feature.
Dara's continued effort to endure within Jasenovac is set against systematic murder and the degradation of camp life.
