What critics said
Critics generally found the film audacious and politically irreverent but too loud, juvenile, and inconsistently funny to fulfill its satirical ambitions.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The American Revolution is recast through fictionalized, exaggerated versions of George Washington, Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and other historical figures.
The film mocks idealized founding narratives and competing conservative and liberal attitudes toward American identity.
Its TV-MA presentation combines crude humor, beer-fueled characterization, chainsaw violence, and pop-culture references.
George Washington wields a chainsaw and leads an action-oriented battle against the British in a heightened animated world.
