What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Tre Styles grows from childhood into young adulthood while navigating the contrasting examples of his father, Ricky, and Doughboy in South Central Los Angeles.
The film repeatedly connects South Central’s schools, streets, gangs, and social pressures to the divergent paths taken by Tre, Ricky, and Doughboy.
The story frames shootings, gang conflict, and cycles of retaliation as destructive consequences of the surrounding social environment, culminating in the message to increase the peace.
Furious Styles teaches Tre responsibility, discipline, and strength of character while Tre confronts competing models of manhood around him.
