What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Adri/Andrea's gender identity and desire for escape organize the emotional viewpoint of the family drama.
1970s Rome is rendered through floral patterns, bell-bottoms, dancing, and saturated family interiors while domestic sadness persists beneath the cheerful surface.
Clara's love for her children remains the central emotional force as Adri/Andrea struggles for recognition and freedom.
Critics describe the film as surprisingly autobiographical, linking its domestic portrait and child's-eye perspective to Crialese's personal experience.
