What critics said
Reception is broadly that of an entertaining but crude animated fantasy comedy whose conventional quest is enlivened by unapologetically bawdy humor.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film places half-naked barbarians, sexual jokes, and exaggerated anatomy inside a conventional fantasy quest.
Ronal is skinny, weak, and mocked by his barbarian tribe before undertaking the rescue mission.
The plot follows a group assembling for an artifact-driven mission against an evil overlord while constantly undercutting heroic fantasy conventions.
The production’s 3D animation and cartoon barbarian designs amplify physical comedy, nudity, and combat.
