What critics said
Critics broadly found Beast entertaining as a Vijay-led action spectacle with appealing music, visuals and performances, but weakened by clichéd writing, uneven pacing and a thin screenplay.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Vijay's Veera Raghavan dominates the action, songs and promotional-style heroic set pieces.
The attack and hostage crisis unfold inside a crowded shopping mall, turning its public spaces into an action maze.
The hostage plot is interwoven with comic characters, jokes and exaggerated hero moments rather than sustained realism.
Veera Raghavan is a jaded former intelligence agent pulled back into action by the mall attack.
