What critics said
Critics found Amanda Bynes charming but considered the Snow White update formulaic and weakened by tired stereotypes.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film explicitly modernizes Snow White by placing its heroine, rival queen, and seven companions within college sorority and fraternity culture.
Sydney allies with socially awkward outcasts and confronts the reigning campus queen and the privileged Greek-row hierarchy.
After rejecting the sorority's values, Sydney finds belonging with seven outcasts who become her new home away from home.
The comedy targets sorority rituals, hazing, popularity contests, and the misguided social rules governing college life.
