What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film continues Madoka Magica's revisionist approach to magical girl conventions while centering Homura's increasingly consequential choices.
Homura is forced to question how far she will go to protect Madoka and confront the consequences of her choices.
The premise presents a fragile post-Rebellion balance and a new threat connected to Walpurgisnacht within the series' surreal cosmology.
The plot explicitly begins after Rebellion and makes the aftermath of that film's events the basis for Homura's conflict.
