Critics generally found the film charming in its leads but weakened by bland predictability, plot holes, and an illogical time-travel premise.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Kate and Leopold fall in love despite their radically different experiences of modern New York and nineteenth-century society.
Leopold encounters cameras, television commercials, apartments, and other modern conveniences while mistaken for an actor.
A gap near the Brooklyn Bridge enables Stuart and Leopold to move between the 1870s and the present.
The film contrasts nineteenth-century and contemporary New York through the time gap and Leopold's arrival in the modern city.
