What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Lucy’s experiences with the Emersons unsettle the expectations governing her conduct, marriage prospects, and emotional expression.
The Florence pension, English drawing rooms, and Tuscan countryside visually distinguish social constraint from sensual freedom.
The film frames Lucy’s choices through conversations about feeling, convention, culture, and the meaning of a fulfilling life.
Lucy must decide whether to follow prescribed marriage plans or acknowledge the desires awakened by her Italian experiences.
