What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Teddy's investigation is filtered through deteriorating memory, hallucination, and competing explanations of the hospital's actions.
Shutter Island's isolated Ashecliffe hospital, storm blockade, and secretive staff turn the location into an engine of distrust.
Teddy's wartime memories and personal grief repeatedly intrude upon his attempt to solve the disappearance.
The missing-patient case increasingly destabilizes Teddy's confidence in his own identity, memories, and investigative role.
