What critics said
Critics broadly found the sequel a charming, visually distinctive return to Burton's macabre comic spirit, though its crowded subplots and uneven narrative weaken its impact.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The returning Beetlejuice, Lydia, and Delia are joined by Astrid and new supernatural storylines that explicitly continue the 1988 film's mythology.
The haunted house, Netherworld, demons, ghosts, and heightened character designs continue Tim Burton's recognizable gothic comic aesthetic.
Beetlejuice moves between the mortal world and the Netherworld amid eccentric supernatural rules, slapstick peril, and macabre jokes.
Lydia, Delia, and Astrid navigate disrupted domestic life while the story frames family as emotionally complicated rather than idealized.
