What critics said
Critics generally found the remake bland and predictable, while agreeing that Glenn Close gives a strikingly effective performance as Cruella de Vil.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Cruella de Vil's glamorous fashion-world persona, theatrical cruelty, and eccentric mannerisms dominate the film's comic antagonism.
Cruella seeks to turn Dalmatian puppies into a fur coat, making opposition to fur fashion the central ethical conflict.
The fifteen puppies are dognapped and pursued through a rescue effort that ultimately expands to ninety-nine Dalmatians.
Walt Disney Pictures reworks the children's-book-derived animated property as a 1996 live-action family film.
