What critics said
Critics broadly found the familiar cast's good-natured comic chemistry mildly appealing but judged the sequel formulaic and weakly plotted.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The returning academy officers and recruits generate humor through cartoonish misbehavior and physical comedy rather than subtle satire.
Funding cutbacks force Lassard's and Mauser's police academies to compete for Governor Neilson's approval.
Carey Mahoney, Hightower, Tackleberry, Jones, Hooks, and Callahan return as the central comic team.
Police commandants, academy funding decisions, and official approval become sources of comic conflict and sabotage.
