Critics found the film notable for addressing the rarely explored subject of surrogacy and strongly praised Preity Zinta's performance, while criticizing the uneven execution and underdeveloped roles for Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Madhoo becomes a surrogate for Raj and Priya after Priya loses her child and cannot conceive again, making pregnancy the central source of emotional conflict.
Madhoo's identity as a prostitute and her love for Raj complicate the couple's arrangement and create a triangle across class boundaries.
Although Raj and Priya initiate the surrogacy arrangement, Madhoo's evolving feelings and unconventional position drive the film's strongest character arc.
The Malhotra family's expectations and the concealment surrounding Madhoo's role frame private reproductive decisions as a public family crisis.
