What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The island tradition and prophecy-like chosen-one framework direct Ash and his friends toward the three elemental islands and the coming crisis.
The fire, ice, and lightning birds, the oceanic Lugia, and the threat of world destruction establish a mythology based on opposing natural powers.
Team Rocket abandons its usual antagonism and helps Ash and his friends oppose the flying-fortress collector.
The film foregrounds Lugia, the elemental birds, worldwide Pokémon gatherings, and tropical island environments as its principal spectacle.
