What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Owen recounts the history of a destructive friendship while participating in doctor-ordered dates with a psychiatric nurse.
The central conflict turns on a risky procedure intended to remove same-sex feelings.
The 1920s setting and conversion-oriented treatment make forbidden sexuality inseparable from period power structures.
The plot explicitly centers on experimental surgery and genital mutilation as consequences of conversion treatment.
