What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Mikal’s childhood unfolds in the hotel room he shares with his parents, making temporary shelter function as both home and emotional landscape.
The story follows 12-year-old Mikal’s wishes, observations, and understanding of his mother’s drinking.
Housing insecurity and substance abuse are presented through Mikal’s daily family life rather than through statistics or policy analysis.
Mikal’s desire for his mother to stop drinking is driven by love but framed by uncertainty about whether she can change.
