What critics said
Critics broadly found the film’s one-location concept, layered lead performance, and exceptionally effective sound design promising and frightening, though familiar tropes and a confused late section weakened the overall impact.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The ten audio recordings, podcast format, and unsettling noises make sound the film’s main engine of dread.
Evy’s primary responsibility for her dying, comatose mother is inseparable from the pressure that fractures her sanity.
Evy moves into her mother’s dying house, where the limited setting magnifies every recording and unexplained noise.
Evy begins as a hoax-minded skeptic on a creepy podcast but is progressively drawn into the recordings’ supernatural implications.
