What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The marriage crisis and romantic longing are repeatedly externalized through jukebox musical numbers.
Nick and Kitty's infidelity crisis is rooted in a long middle-aged marriage and their working-class New York community.
Everyday marital resentment, sexual desire, and family intervention are presented with theatrical musical exaggeration.
Nick's erotic poem and Tula's frank fascination with his body make physical attraction central to the conflict.
