What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Ben and his high-achieving friends use academic success as a public identity while privately pursuing mischief and crime, challenging simplistic Asian American representation.
Ben’s perfectionism and pursuit of social success provide the pressure that drives the group from petty offenses toward more serious excess.
Ben, Virgil, Daric, and Han deliberately cultivate a double life of petty crimes and excitement behind their successful student identities.
The friends’ escalating mischief is initially framed as exhilarating fun, then turns into a disturbing downward spiral.
