What critics said
Critics generally viewed it as a formulaic, lightweight teen romantic comedy whose affectionate throwback energy and delicate comic premise were undermined by an uneven, sloppy execution.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Brad's attempt to obtain a condom leads to robbery, assault, arrest, and successive complications over one night.
Brad's desire to sleep with Brooke and his sudden inability to obtain protection make sexual anxiety the central dramatic engine.
The film was described as a throwback to the golden age of the Brat Pack and the two Coreys, while its teen romance follows familiar 1980s and 1990s formulas.
Leah is disgusted by Brad's pursuit of Brooke while wanting Brad for herself.
