What critics said
Critics broadly found Jailer to be a highly entertaining Rajinikanth vehicle whose dark comedy, mass-action writing, and star presence outweigh an uneven and overlong second half.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The film shifts between dark comedy, family emotion, crime investigation, idol theft, and large-scale action while centering Rajinikanth's star persona.
Retired jailer Muthuvel is drawn back into violent action after his son's killers force him to confront a darker past.
Muthuvel undertakes a manhunt for the people responsible for killing his son, framing justice as a family obligation.
The writing deliberately builds punch dialogues, calculated pauses, cameos, and mass-action reveals for audience hoots and whistles.
