What critics said
Critics broadly regard it as a handsome, sombre, thoughtfully acted, and visually strong Homeric adaptation, while finding its realism and solemn pacing limiting.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The return of Odysseus is presented as a sombre, psychologically grounded family drama rather than a supernatural adventure.
Odysseus returns after twenty years to an Ithaca shaped by absence, grief, political instability, and damaged family bonds.
Odysseus finds Penelope imprisoned by suitors and Telemachus threatened, making homecoming an emotionally and politically hostile act.
The film favors rudimentary daily life, realistic action, and austere historical environments over spectacle and supernatural imagery.
