What critics said
Critics broadly found the sequel compassionate and perceptive about how former commune members evolve, though some viewed its subdued cynicism and dependence on the original as limiting.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
The surviving members of the Together commune reconvene in 1999 after nearly a quarter-century apart.
The former commune members confront the gap between their 1970s socialist ethos and their late-1990s lives.
The reunion unfolds through documentary-like social exchanges among very different old friends.
The follow-up reconvenes characters from Together and measures their mental distance from the original commune experience.
