What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Carol's struggle to win a major movie-trailer voice-over job exposes the competitive, manufactured world of entertainment marketing.
Carol competes against established male voices while facing dismissive assumptions about women's suitability for authoritative trailer narration.
Voice-over auditions, vocal coaching, accents, dialects, and trailer narration drive both the plot and the film's comic texture.
Carol's aspiration is entangled with her father Sam's status as the dominant voice-over authority and their strained relationship.
