Critics broadly found the reboot a genuinely funny and affectionate revival of the spoof tradition, even if its thin plot and occasional unevenness limit its bite.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Frank Drebin Jr. operates as a deadpan police hero while the surrounding action and criminal schemes unfold as deliberate nonsense.
The film explicitly revives the Naked Gun and Police Squad legacy while positioning Liam Neeson as the next Drebin.
The plot uses police investigation, villainous technology, and world-saving action as scaffolding for spoof gags.
The central detective is defined by a particular set of skills filtered through the franchise's slapstick tradition.
