Tulip Fever
In 17th-century Holland, amidst the intoxicating and ultimately devastating tulip mania, a restrained period romance unfolds – not as a grand passion, but as a desperate gamble for freedom. A painter, commissioned for a portrait, ignites a clandestine affair with his subject, a woman trapped within a loveless, politically motivated marriage. Their shared investment in rare tulip bulbs isn't simply a pursuit of wealth, but a fragile hope to engineer a new life free from societal constraints, a hope inextricably linked to the fleeting beauty and inherent risk of the flower itself. The film charts their increasingly precarious scheme, steeped in an atmosphere of hushed longing and mounting anxiety, portraying a love born not of idyllic romance, but of shared defiance and economic necessity, shadowed by the looming threat of exposure and financial ruin.
