Puppet Master
Within a secluded, atmospheric coastal hotel, a gathering of psychics unravels a darkly whimsical mystery surrounding Andre Toulon, a reclusive toymaker and master of animation. Toulon’s decades-long quest for life extension has manifested in five intricately crafted, miniature puppets – each possessed of a gruesome independence and a penchant for lethal precision. The film distinguishes itself not through jump scares, but through its unsettling blend of gothic horror and stop-motion artistry, presenting a strangely charming, almost melancholic exploration of obsession and artificial life. Instead of typical slasher tropes, the puppets’ killings are presented with a darkly comical edge, creating a unique tonal balance that leans into a perverse sense of playfulness alongside genuine peril. The narrative embraces a "dark fairy tale" sensibility, focusing less on frantic survival and more on the curious, unnerving implications of a man who has seemingly cheated death through his creations.
