Welcome to the South
Alberto, a relentlessly ambitious post office manager in Northern Italy, spirals into a farcical scheme to feign disability and secure a coveted Milan transfer, driven by marital pressure and a deep-seated dissatisfaction with his provincial life. His calculated deceit backfires spectacularly, resulting in a punitive reassignment to a vibrant, chaotic town in Campania – a cultural exile that forces him to confront his ingrained prejudices and the absurdity of his aspirations. The comedy arises not from slapstick, but from the painfully awkward collision of Northern and Southern Italian sensibilities, exposing a humorous yet poignant clash of societal norms and familial expectations. It’s a story about dismantling preconceived notions through immersion in a life radically different from one’s own, discovering unexpected hospitality, and a slow awakening to the simple joys he’d previously dismissed.
