Rolling Thunder
Haunted by fragmented memories and the brutal realities of his time as a prisoner of war, Charles Rane returns to a civilian life that feels irrevocably distant. Initially celebrated as a hero, his attempts to rebuild a connection with his wife and son are poisoned by simmering trauma and a pervasive sense of displacement. When a callous land deal threatens his family's livelihood, Rane doesn't seek justice through conventional means, but instead methodically and brutally engineers a campaign of escalating revenge against those who wronged him, culminating in a shockingly violent home invasion. The film portrays a chilling descent into vigilantism driven not by righteous anger, but by a numb, internalized rage, presenting a stark and unsettling vision of post-Vietnam America and the invisible wounds of war.
