Everybody's Fine
A quiet ache of loneliness propels Frank Goode, a recently widowed retiree, on a cross-country road trip after his adult children unexpectedly cancel their holiday visit. What begins as a hopeful attempt at reconnection unfolds into a series of subtly heartbreaking discoveries as Frank navigates the carefully constructed facades of his children’s lives – a glamorous lawyer battling private despair, a relentlessly optimistic salesman masking financial ruin, a stay-at-home mother grappling with marital alienation, and a seemingly successful chef haunted by past trauma. The film eschews explosive conflict for a tenderly observed portrait of familial disconnection, revealing how unspoken burdens and carefully curated illusions can erode even the closest bonds, culminating in a poignant unraveling of truth and an understated, cathartic acceptance of imperfect family dynamics.
