Within the claustrophobic confines of a decaying Welsh manor, a disparate group of strangers seeking respite from a torrential downpour stumble into a darkly comedic and increasingly unsettling situation. The Femm family, eccentric and unsettlingly welcoming, preside over a home steeped in unsettling secrets and veiled social prejudices, their antiquated rituals and bizarre behavior slowly eroding the travelers' composure. The escalating tension isn’t born of jump scares, but a creeping dread fueled by awkward social interactions, a pervasive sense of isolation, and the increasingly erratic behavior of the family patriarch and his peculiar household – including a largely mute, imposing servant. This pre-code horror defies typical genre expectations, blending genuine suspense with pointed social satire and a subtly macabre humor, ultimately exploring themes of societal exclusion and the fragility of civility when confronted with the genuinely “other.”
