Serial (Bad) Weddings 2
Claude and Marie Verneuil grapple with an empty nest as all four of their daughters’ husbands simultaneously contemplate leaving France, each driven by escalating cultural frustrations and personal ambitions. This isn’t a story of familial rejection, but a sharply observed, increasingly frantic comedy of errors as the parents attempt to subtly – and then not so subtly – sabotage their sons-in-law’s desires to relocate. The film distinguishes itself from typical family comedies through its relentless escalation of awkwardness and its willingness to directly confront anxieties surrounding cultural integration, presenting the Verneuil’s perspective as simultaneously well-intentioned and increasingly absurd. While maintaining a lighthearted tone, the film explores the quiet desperation of parents facing a shifting generational landscape and the anxieties of maintaining hard-won family connections.
