Wake Wood
In the isolated Irish countryside, a grieving couple, haunted by the brutal loss of their young daughter, succumb to a desperate and unsettling proposition offered by a close-knit community: a pagan ritual promising three days of resurrected life. This isn’t a ghost story seeking jump scares, but a deeply unsettling folk horror exploring the agonizing limits of grief and the terrifying consequences of tampering with forces beyond understanding, manifesting as a slow-burn descent into psychological torment. The film deliberately eschews sensationalism, instead dwelling on the raw, suffocating despair of parents confronting a fractured echo of their child, ultimately posing uncomfortable questions about acceptance, the nature of mourning, and whether some wounds are better left untouched. The quiet desperation and unsettling atmosphere are magnified by the remote setting, making the experience deeply unnerving and emotionally resonant.
