The Pale Blue Eye
In the bleak winter of 1830 West Point, a gruesome murder—a cadet found hanged with his heart surgically removed—pulls a disillusioned and haunted former detective, Augustus Landor, out of quiet resignation. The investigation unexpectedly intertwines him with the young, enigmatic Edgar Allan Poe, not as a witness, but as an unconventional apprentice in unraveling a conspiracy steeped in occult symbolism and shadowed by the rigid institutions of the military academy. Unlike a typical procedural, the film unfolds as a melancholic and intellectually stimulating puzzle box, less concerned with breakneck thrills and more with the creeping dread and shared despair between two fractured men. The mystery isn’t simply *who* committed the act, but *why*, leading them both down a path that exposes the darkness lurking beneath a veneer of order and ambition, ultimately fueling Poe's nascent literary obsessions.
