Tommy Boy
A relentlessly cheerful, if deeply clumsy, heir attempts a cross-country road trip with a cynical, strait-laced salesman to salvage his family’s auto parts company. Unlike typical buddy comedies built on antagonism, this film emphasizes a reluctant mentorship and the blossoming, albeit chaotic, affection between two men who fundamentally misunderstand each other – yet desperately need to connect. The humor derives not from grand set pieces, but from the painfully awkward social interactions and escalating mishaps that expose the protagonist’s genuine, if often misguided, desire to honor his late father’s legacy. It’s a surprisingly tender exploration of grief masked by slapstick, where the true stakes aren't financial, but the search for self-worth and belonging in the face of overwhelming inadequacy.
