Riding the Bullet
Amidst the late 1960s counterculture, a young artist grapples with a premonition of loss and a spiraling fascination with mortality, triggered by anxieties surrounding a dissolving relationship and culminating in a suicide attempt. Following news of his mother’s sudden illness, he embarks on a desolate hitchhiking journey across Maine, a route increasingly haunted by uncanny encounters and a creeping sense of dread that blurs the lines between reality and his own internal anxieties. The film doesn’t rely on jump scares, but on a slow-burn psychological unease – presenting a haunting exploration of grief, vulnerability, and the desperate search for connection in the face of inevitable loss, mirroring the protagonist’s artistic struggle to capture fleeting moments before they vanish.
