Ember in ChatGPT and Claude: documentation
How to set up Ember in ChatGPT and Claude, what its tools do, how changes are confirmed and where to get help.
What it does
Ask for a film mid-conversation and Ember answers from more than 20,000 deeply analysed films, your taste and the services you have linked.
- Find something to watch: Describe a mood, half-remember a plot or name films you love. Picks come from your taste and skip what you've watched.
- Where to stream it: US streaming options from Ember's catalogue. Freshness varies, so check the service for what's on right now.
- Save and remove films: Save to Quick Saves or any collection, or use Save to Ember in film details. Removing a film asks you to confirm first.
- Your linked libraries: Play in Plex, add to Radarr or save to Stremio from film details. Link those services in Ember first, then grant library access when asked. Radarr asks for a quality profile and folder, and download search starts unchecked.
This release answers in English and covers films. TV shows and editing your watch history come later. Streaming options are for the US.
Set it up
Ember is a remote connector. Add its address once in your assistant, then sign in to Ember when it first asks for something personal.
- ChatGPT: https://mcp.ember.film/chatgpt/mcp
- Claude: https://mcp.ember.film/claude/mcp
Tools
The assistant picks the tools for you. Looking up and showing films needs no account; anything that involves you needs you signed in to Ember.
- ember-readme: A short guide to Ember that the assistant reads before its first request. No account needed.
- search-movies: Finds films by name, mood or a detailed description. Ember picks quick search or Ember AI and says which it used. No account needed; Ember AI has a daily allowance.
- get-titles: Facts, synopsis and US streaming options for up to 10 films. With your library access, it also shows whether a film is already in your Plex, Radarr or Stremio.
- recommend-titles: Suggests films you have not watched, based on your taste and streaming services. Needs your account.
- get-collections: Lists your collections and Quick Saves and the films in them. Needs your account.
- save-collection: Adds films to a collection or Quick Saves, or removes them, only when you ask. Needs your account.
- integrations: Adds a film to your Radarr or saves it to your Stremio, only when you ask. Needs your account and library access.
- render-titles: Shows films as cards in the conversation, in order, without changing anything.
- render-search-results: Shows films as cards in the conversation, in order, without changing anything.
- render-recommendations: Shows films as cards in the conversation, in order, without changing anything.
- render-collection: Shows films as cards in the conversation, in order, without changing anything.
Changes and confirmation
Ember changes something only when you ask it to.
- Removing a film from a collection asks you to confirm first.
- Radarr asks for the quality profile and folder, and searching for a download is a separate choice that starts unchecked.
- If the outcome of an action is unclear, ask again: Ember checks what happened instead of doing it twice.
- ChatGPT asks you to confirm before Ember saves or removes a film, adds to Radarr or saves to Stremio.
- Review permissions or disconnect at any time from Connected apps. Disconnecting blocks further access straight away and keeps your collections.
Try asking
Say it in your own words; the assistant chooses the right tool. A few ideas:
- Find thoughtful science-fiction movies with Ember and show the results.
- Use Ember to find the heist film where the crew is betrayed by their getaway driver.
- Recommend unseen movies on my US streaming services with Ember.
- Show my Ember Quick Saves, and save a film I choose.
- Find Arrival with Ember, check my Plex library, and add it to Radarr after I choose a profile and folder. Do not search for downloads.
Troubleshooting
If something does not work as expected:
- Ember is not offered: custom connectors depend on your plan, and on Team, Enterprise and Edu workspaces an admin may need to allow them first.
- Asked to connect again: a connection lasts at most 30 days, or until you disconnect it. Connect once more from the assistant.
- A search takes a while: Ember AI searches can take 20 to 40 seconds.
- A search stops at a daily limit: Ember AI has a daily allowance, larger when you are signed in. Try again tomorrow.
- A streaming option looks wrong: availability is stored from JustWatch for the US and may be out of date. Check the service.
- Plex, Radarr or Stremio actions are missing: link the service in Ember first, then approve library access when the assistant asks.
What the connector shares
Ember shares only what you ask the assistant for. The privacy policy has the full detail.
- Artwork and film notes load from public catalogue routes while you browse.
- Account features share only the recommendations, saved films and library status you ask for.
- Service credentials and full server or folder paths stay on Ember's servers.
- Short-lived encrypted selections last 30 minutes. Retry records and action receipts last up to 30 days, together with the connection.
