What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Lucy travels to an artist's retreat in small-town Maine to model for Ilse, making the retreat the central environment for their confrontation.
Lucy is a complacent young bartender whose assumptions about a good life are challenged by the painter's world and outlook.
Lucy agrees to model for Ilse, placing the act of being observed and represented at the center of their relationship.
Ilse is described as existentially floundering while Lucy begins from a position of complacency, creating the film's central contrast.
