American Auto

In the headquarters of a major American automotive company in Detroit, a floundering group of executives at Payne Motors must adapt to the changing times or be sent to the junkyard.

American Auto (2021-2023) is an American network sitcom created by Justin Spitzer for NBC. Set in the headquarters of Payne Motors, a major automotive company in Detroit, the series follows a floundering team of executives who must adapt to changing times or be sent to the junkyard. Harriet Dyer plays Sadie and Ana Gasteyer plays Katherine, with Tye White as Jack, Jon Barinholtz as Wesley, and Michael Benjamin Washington as Cyrus rounding out the core ensemble. The engine of the show is corporate survival: each twenty-one minute episode turns on a pitch, a product decision, or a rivalry that threatens the company's future, and the characters' petty ambitions collide with the realities of a shrinking industry. The series runs for two seasons and twenty-three episodes before its cancellation. Its tone is breezy and sardonic, with deadpan office banter and absurd corporate maneuvering. Fans of The Office, Veep and Dunder Mifflin will find resonance in its satire of boardroom incompetence and its affectionate portrait of a workplace that refuses to die quietly.
